1ST PART – City Tour Trujillo

With the group and guide reunited, you’ll begin with a sightseeing tour of Trujillo City and its lovely colonial mansions getting marveled at the well-preserved and imposing portals, balconies, and churches, including a visit of Plaza Mayor and the Freedom Monument, a baroque marble sculpture, designed by the German artist Edmundo Muller. Continue towards the Archaeological Museum of Trujillo National University for an exhibition of the region’s pre-Columbian cultures, which goal is to showcase the historical development of the north coast, from the first inhabitants, about 12,000 years ago, until the arrival of the European in 1532.

2ND PART – Huanchaco & Chan Chan

Next up is the beautiful Huaca Dragon, a ceremonial Temple surrounded by a wall of 60 to 54 meters on each side. Its decoration is dedicated to the Rainbow, as a symbol of fertility and rainfall by the Chimú culture. Afterward, you will have a ride to the seaside town of Huanchaco and watch the local fishermen on their traditional “Caballitos de Totora” (rafts used on the Peruvian north coast since pre-Columbian times) After having lunch, you’ll explore the ancient and biggest mud-brick City of Chan Chan, once the proud capital of the Chimú Kingdom. Serving as an open history book, this city groups 10 walled citadels, the reason why is listed as the largest adobe settlement in America. On its walls, stand out high-relief and engraved figures beautifully decorated in varied forms: geometrics, birds, fish, among others. End with a return ride to Trujillo downtown.
