Salkantay Trek Peru, This tour will definitely let you create and treasure unforgettable memories. Start with the Capital city of Lima visiting its wonderful locations on a bike, roam across the archeological sites that Cusco offers, and hike to the famous Salkantay on the way to the enigmatic Machu Picchu with your guide accompanying your every step.

Itinerary

Day 1WELCOME TO LIMA!

Be captive by a cosmopolitan city; Lima, the city of kings, or Lima the grey city; whatever they call this beautiful city will catch you.

You will meet and greet a Peru & U host on your arrival for a drive to the hotel of your choice and rest smoothly for the adventures ahead. Have a complimentary tour briefing and the rest of the day at leisure to relax and enjoy the gastronomic capital of South America.

Day 2LIMA BIKING CITY TOUR (B)

What a better way to start to know this beautiful country by Lima and on a bike, the capital; its people, streets, and avenues biking all the route.

The meeting point will be close by at Larcomar Mall or hotel to join a small group. Lead by an expert instructor Guide, the first stop will be the Surquillo Market a great chance to purchase a souvenir for your beloved ones at home. The next site is the impressive archeological site of Huaca Pucllana that use to be a ceremonial and administrative temple of the Lima culture.

As the biking tour follows then the Miraflores Malecon waits for you to enchant with views of the coastline and its fresh breeze, you will pass by the Love Park and the bridge of redoubt as well. You’ll visit some of the most remarkable such as the ….

The rest of the day will be yours to embrace the most out of the city.

Day 3LIMA - FLIGHT TO CUSCO (B)

From the coast to the highlands. Let’s have an incredible day in an important site of the Inca Empire because of its naturally rich soil; let’s get to know this beautiful reality.

After your breakfast, we’ll pick you up from your hotel to catch your flight to Cusco. Being welcomed by one of our local hosts you’ll follow a short transfer to your downtown hotel. This day is to adjust yourself and acclimatize to the high altitude of this magical city. Take advantage of this World-Heritage place wandering by yourself as you soak in the Andean Culture.

Day 4CITY TOUR & CUSCO RUINS (B)

Let’s discover the splendor of the ancient Inca capital, tucked away high in the mountains. This beautiful and magic city is much more than historical

Today is about exploring the cobblestone City of Cusco. After a free morning, we will pick you up in the early afternoon for complete City sightseeing. The first stop is at the Qoricancha or Sun Temple, a beautiful temple built during the zenith of the Inca empire. You’ll also have a visit at the interiors of the emblematic Cathedral, at the City’s main square, filled with a selection of frescos, luxury decorations, and awe-inspiring architecture. The tour continues out of Cusco for a walkthrough of the Inca complex of Sacsayhuaman, featuring massive openings of Inca walls, built with rocks weighing up to 180 tons! Once served as a fortress against the Spaniards, this is definitely the highlight of the day.

Have a later walk across Qenqo, where it’s said that the Incas used to mummify their dead, followed by a visit to the Inca Baths at Tambomachay and the nearby fort of Puka Pukara. You’ll end off with a drive back to your Cusco downtown hotel. The rest of the evening is yours to soak in the mystical atmosphere of the city.

Day 5THE SALKANTAY TREK: CUSCO - SORAYPAMPA - HUMANTAY (L, D)

And the adventure begins on this beautiful day; get ready for all this tour full of green mountains and genuine sites.

Begin with a 3-hour early morning drive to the trailhead, passing the villages of Callacancha and Limatambo. You’ll have several stops to get some fresh air and admire the unique views of the Andean Mountain range and start walking alongside some unique and typical scenery of Peru. Located just one hour ahead we’ll set up at the Camp Base of Soraypampa, located above 3850 meters. Enjoy lunch with the first glimpses of Salkantay peak. You’ll then follow an optional and scenic round-trip hike to the famous Humantay Glacier Lake, certainly not to be missed! Overnight at the Campsite of Soraypampa.
• Notes: Before reaching Soraypampa, we recommend that you take a 2-hour detour in order to reach Humantay Lake so that you can observe the stunning snow-covered peak of Humantay.

Day 6SORAYPAMPA– SALKANTAY PASS - COLLPAPAMPA (B, L, D)

With a little more effort you will continue this incredible walk through high mountains.

You’ll hike to the peak of the trail at Salkantay Pass in order to admire the spectacular views over the Southern mountain range, being able to spot some of the most important snow peaks, and of course, greeting at the majestic Salkantay Glacier, which raises over 6,271 meters, one of the highest of Peru. Wander around the snow before the 2-hour hike downhill to reach the camp for lunch.

The second part of the trail features a dramatic change in scenery. You’ll enter the upper part of the jungle best known as “Cloud Forest”. At the pace of a warmer atmosphere, look for some orchids and waterfalls on the way to the village of Collpapampa, where you will spend the night.

Day 7COLLPAPAMPA - LLAQTAPATA (B, L, D)

Today continue our walk watching the great flora and fauna and meet local people

After breakfast, follow our guide for an adventurous hike that will take you through some amazing sights appreciating a variety of crops, including the famous coca leaf, used for hundreds of years as a sacred plant. This last section will be downhill to La Playa. Here, you’ll have a typical lunch prepared by a local cook.

In the afternoon, you are ready to continue the hike to Llaqtapata where you’ll meet a local family for a demonstration of organic coffee and chocolate preparation. Spend some time learning about the labor-intensive process of coffee harvest, which is cultivated and gathered from the nearby fields, and is considered one of the best in the world!

Following dinner, have a good night’s sleep at the Campsite of Llaqtapata.

Day 8LLACTAPATA - HIDROELECTRICA - AGUAS CALIENTES (B, L, D)

Have your last day in this beautiful walk and live incredible views.

Following an early start at Llaqtapata, you’ll continue walking through beautiful views of some waterfalls, stopping at a Natural lookout to spot the Machu Picchu Mountain. Find more fields filled with coca and other plantations such as bananas, and coffee en route along with interesting facts and insights delivered by our expert guide.

For lunch, you’ll have a typical meal around Hidroelectrica, and from this point, we’ll continue strolling alongside the train rail toward Aguas Calientes. If you are feeling tired you have the option to continue this portion by train (own expense). By the afternoon we will arrive at Machupicchu town, encircled by giant rocky hills. Here, you’ll spend our last night in basic accommodation at the foot of the great Machupicchu.

Day 9MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO (B)

Discover the treasure of the Inca empire and explore the majesty of their lost city, hidden from view on a mountain top veiled in cloud forest for more than four centuries.

At 4.30 am we’ll head to the Inka citadel of Machupicchu, through a 1-hour walkway in the middle of the jungle, this will allow us to explore Machu Picchu in the early morning before the crowds.

Benefit from a 2-hour guided tour on your arrival, and learn more about the temples, palaces, priest houses, and more. Get some free time to explore at leisure, or use it to climb to the top of Huaynapicchu or the Machu Picchu mountains, if booked in advance they will assure you get unparallel views over the Citadel. Alternatively, you can trek to the Sun Gate at the main entrance of the Inka Trail.

Take the train to Ollantaytambo at approximately 6:30 PM and then catch the bus back to Cusco for a drop-off at your hotel or hostel on arrival.

Day 10DEPART CUSCO

The least expected moment has arrived; It is time to say goodbye to such a magical experience that I will soon have again
