Weather on the Inca Trail

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu winds through various environments in its 26 mile span, meaning that you have to be prepared for all weather conditions. Expect very cold temperatures when scaling mountain passes with a lot of wind, especially at the top of Dead Woman’s Pass. Despite the cold temerature, if the sun is out it will be strong so do not negelct to constantly put sunscreen on.You will also descend into the cloud forest, where it will be hot and humid with many mosquitos and insects.


The wet season on the Inca Trail is between November and March, meaning that you will encounter a lot of rain so be prepared. The best time to hike the trail is the month of May, although it is a bit colder then, it is the driest month giving you the best chance for no rain.
