What to do in Aguas Calientes

Thermal Baths

Visit the small hot springs that give Aguas Calientes its name. For just a 10 sole entrance you can relax in the healing hot water and enjoy a drink from thre restaurant located within the site.


Hike Putukusi Mountain

Take this challenging, free, hike to get a beautiful peak offering sweeping views of the surrounding area. This is a very challenging hike involving long, high vertical ladders that can be slippery when it rains. It is not for those scared of hieghts or who are not in a bit of shape for the climb. However nerve-racking and challenging the hike may be, you will be rewarded with an amazing view of the Machu Picchu ruins and the expansive valley.


Bird Watching

Because Aguas Calientes is located within a tropical cloud forest, there are many exotic and colorful plants and animals. A great activity to do while in Aguas Calientes is to either hire a guide or wander on your own through the forest to spot the huge variety of colorful and rare birds living in this area. You can spot dozens of native birds to the area and enjoy the calming serenity of the thick forest.


Mandor Gardens & Waterfall

Visit this private nature preserve where you can wander through the botanical gardens where you will view dozens of exotic bright flowers and plants. You will also spot many butterflies and exotic birds native to the area along the way. From here you can wander around more in the forest, or take about an hour walk to a beautiful waterful hidden deep in the forest.


Handicraft Market

As you get off the train you will enter a huge covered outdoor handicraft market. Wandering around the endless stalls is a great way to spend some time. You will see diverse souvenirs including jewlery, cloths, clothing, figurines, carved gourds, and much more.
